Staff members of the Banag-Banag school publication gathered at the CPC Audio-Visual Room (AVR) on April 11, 2026, for a Seminar-Workshop on News, Sports, and Feature Writing. The event aimed to strengthen their journalistic skills. Held from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the activity featured Dr. Philip Donald P. Herrera as the guest speaker.
The program began with registration, facilitated by the News and Sports Department, followed by an opening prayer led by Ms. Johanna Fe Tampus. The preliminaries included the singing of the national anthem and the Cordova and CPC hymns, formally opening the event. The masters of ceremonies, Shane Yagong and Dave Sumagang, smoothly guided the flow of activities. Mr. Sherwin Tirol, the school publication adviser, delivered his welcome address.
To energize the participants, the Feature Department conducted a journalism-related activity before the main workshop, setting an engaging and lively atmosphere for the session.
During the workshop proper, Dr. Herrera shared valuable insights and guided participants on how to effectively write news, sports, and feature articles. He emphasized that writers have a significant responsibility in sharing and managing information, urging them to combat misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, and to avoid potential biases.
Following each lecture, staffers were divided into four groups and tasked with writing an article using a provided fact sheet. This hands-on activity allowed participants to apply the concepts discussed. Each group presented their article, after which another assigned group provided feedback, highlighting strengths and suggesting areas for improvement. Dr. Herrera then offered his perspective on each article, hoping to help improve the quality of future writing. The interactive session enabled staffers to collaborate and deepen their understanding of the writing process.
The program concluded with the awarding of certificates and a closing prayer, marking the end of a meaningful and productive seminar-workshop for all Banag-Banag staffers.
The Seminar workshop marks a significant step towards empowering talented journalist to become bearers of truth, and telling inspiring stories in Cordova Public College.
